covid-19 guidelines / head of the housatonic

New Haven Rowing Club has two priorities for this year’s Head of the Housatonic: high-quality competitive racing, and the health and safety of athletes, coaches, and volunteers. In order to achieve both objectives, all participants are expected to follow our special Covid-19 protocols this year.

No Spectators at Any Regatta Site:

  • No spectators will be permitted into Indian Well State Park this year. No exceptions. The only people permitted into the park are athletes, coaches, referees, medical support staff from local emergency services, and NHRC regatta volunteers.

  • No spectators will be permitted on the New Haven Rowing Club property in Oxford.

  • No spectators will be permitted to board the shuttle bus services from our offsite parking over to Indian Well State Park. Athletes and coaches only on the buses.

  • We expect coaches and club leaders to communicate the no-spectator policy to their parents and supporters, and to help enforce the policy. Any spectators found attempting to board a shuttle bus, at Indian Well State Park or New Haven Rowing Club will be asked to leave immediately. Additionally, the school/club they are affiliated with may be barred from participating in future regattas hosted by New Haven Rowing Club and potentially excluded from competition at this year’s event.

Vaccinations:

  • Vaccinations are STRONGLY RECOMMENDED for all regatta participants.

Masks:

  • When you arrive at the offsite parking location, put on your mask before you interact with the volunteers from Habitat for Humanity. This is for your safety as well as theirs.

  • Masking is mandatory while waiting for and riding on the shuttle buses, regardless of vaccination status.

  • Masking is mandatory in indoor spaces, including the rest rooms at Indian Well State Park.

  • Outdoors at Indian Well State Park and outdoors at New Haven Rowing Club, masking is MANDATORY FOR ALL ATTENDEES. You may remove your mask only when you are with your teammates and socially distanced from other teams.

  • MASKING IS MANDATORY WHILE CARRYING BOATS AND OARS TO AND FROM THE BEACH. Athletes wearing masks can remove them once they are launched and on the water.

  • All teams and clubs are encouraged to bring an ample supply of masks, hand sanitizer and any other personal hygiene items with them to the regatta venue.

  • A limited supply of masks will be available at the Registration tent for any athlete or coach who loses their mask during the day.

Social Distancing:

  • All participants are encouraged to maintain social distance from others throughout the regatta.

Day-Of Illness:

  • If you are feeling unwell or have any of the symptoms associated with Covid-19, do not come to the regatta! Contact your coach immediately so that he or she can make alternate arrangements for your boat.

  • Anyone experiencing any of the symptoms of Covid-19 must immediately report to the medical services team at the Registration tent at Indian Well State Park.
